We're back at one of our favorite campgrounds,
Goose Island State Park, located on Aransas Bay, just outside

Sunset over Serendipity Bay Resort |
En route to Goose Island from Fort Pickens, we spent one night at an RV/Boat park in Palacios, TX, called Serendipity Bay Resort. We stayed simply because it was in a convenient location in our travels from one destination campground to another, but we enjoyed it so much that we may return in the future to spend a few days here. The town of Palacios has seen better days, as is true of many small towns in all 50 states, but it is clear that this is a town with pride and determination to recover it's former glory. There is a lovely little city center park that is lovingly tended,
and a wonderful long seaside walkway interspersed with numerous fishing piers, bordered by a park which includes pretty landscaping and children's playground areas.
But Goose Island! This is our third winter stay here, and now this place is beginning to feel like home to us. There are two main campgrounds; the bayside campground has two loops, the wooded campground has 3 main roads with campgrounds, a special tent camping area for those tenters who don't want RV's and travel trailers as neighbors, and two large group campgrounds.

Bayside Campground |
The bayside loops are considered the prime spots, and cost more per night than the wooded sites, but we prefer the greater privacy offered by the wooded campsites, which are guarded by numerous contorted and magnificent live oaks, and provided privacy by various shrubs situated between many of the large and comfortable campsites.

Our Home here in Goose Island State Park |
We have arrived here as spring is becoming more and more noticeable in the flowers and fresh new growth on shrubs,
while the live oaks belie the spring "theme" by dropping leaves a plenty, which they apparently do year round, but which lends a bit of autumnal feel to the campground.
